Needles
Without Pain
By Dianne Partie Lange
One adult out of
every ten is so fearful of injections that he or she becomes nauseated,
and sometimes even faints, at the sight of a needle. That's why many
dermatologists and plastic surgeons have long used Emla cream, a mix
of lidocaine and prilocaine that numbs the skin, before giving collagen
injections, removing stitches, or burning off superficial lesions. Now
some pharmacies, such as the Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills,
have begun creating a triple anesthetic gel with tetracaine and dispensing
it to physicians. The new preparation takes effect after 15 minutes,
compared with at least an hour for Emla. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon
Robert Kotler reports that he began using the fast-acting gel for collagen
injections but now uses it to numb the skin before removing eye-lift
and face-lift stitches. Some women who have used the gel say it not
only works faster than Emla but is more effective as well.

Electrolysis Pain Management
In March, 1999, Mikki sent along this good news:
Dear Andrea, The product is sooo exciting that I found
out about .... I have used it on my upper lip area, which as we all
know can be very painful!! It's used like EMLA, but is a clear product
with no occlusion dressing needed... and can be applied in a thin coat.
The other good news is that you only need to put it on about 1/2 hr.
before treatment and it lasts much longer than EMLA ever thought of
lasting! I found out about this thru "Allure" magazine, they
had an article about this Beverly Hills compound Pharm. that made this
product especially for electrol. or other treatments using EMLA and
that this product was twice as strong. Well, guess what it IS! I finally
have been able to get my upper lip done with very little difficulty.
What you have to do to get this is have your Dr. write
a script which can be faxed directly to the pharmacy, call them first
and place the order, for which you have to pay $40 up front, before
they will fill the order. Then you have your Dr. send a script for the
following: 20% benzocaine, 6% lidocaine, and 4% tetracaine in organo
gel. That's it, that's all you have to do ... when you call they know
what your talking about if you just mention the "tetracaine gel".
The name of the place is "Compounding Pharmacy of Beverly Hills",
Tel.# is 310-284-8675 and the fax # is 310-284-8680. The staff are very
nice their and very helpful too!. Enjoy this info. Andrea and I would
love to hear more from you and others on how it works and just to chit
chat if you like!

Anti-Inflammatory Pain Gel
After beginning frequent use of an office computer for notes, etc I
began to suffer from bilat tendonitis in the wrists and along the radius
especially on the right hand. I tried a ketoprofen gel recommended to
me by a colleague which I obtained through the Compounding Pharmacy
of Beverly Hills. At first I had to use it 4-8 times a day but now
I am reasonably comfortable with bid or tid use. So far no untoward
local or systemic effects and I had a history of recurrent episodes
of gastritis symptoms with oral use of a variety of NSAIDs.
One swallow does not make a spring indeed but this is a nice agent
to have available...
